Junior

Mission Statement

Our aim is to introduce juniors to the game of golf in a stimulating and enjoyable way. We are committed to providing a safe and friendly environment where young golfers can develop their skills while having fun. We promote friendship, respect for others, and encourage playing in the true spirit of the game. Through a mix of social and competitive golf, we help juniors grow both on and off the course, while preparing them for smooth integration into adult golf.

Junior Etiquette & Quiz

At Southerndown Golf Club, we guide our junior golfers to play with honesty, respect, and care. By learning golf etiquette, our juniors develop good habits—treating others kindly, looking after the course, and staying safe

Membership

We welcome junior golfers of all ages and abilities — from total beginners to single-figure handicap players.

At Southerndown, we offer a warm and inclusive environment where every junior can enjoy the game, make new friends, and strive for sporting success.

Please Note: Juniors of primary school age who are children or grandchildren of FULL members are eligible to join as Associate Members.

Coaching & Playing Opportunities

Our top priority is to ensure that juniors enjoy their golf experience while developing new skills.

Coaching is delivered through focused tuition from our Professional staff, and we regularly organise group sessions introducing the core elements of the game. These skill-graded activities include:

  • Short game practice
  • Chipping and putting
  • Bunker technique
  • 18-hole competitions for experienced players

Free coaching sessions are held on Saturday mornings, on a fortnightly rolling basis, led by our Director of Golf / Club Professional, John Peters, and his coaching team.

All junior competitions are scheduled on weekends or during school holidays, which is also when juniors can work towards obtaining a handicap, supported by the Junior Organiser.
