This section of the site has been designed with the new member in mind. Many members will of course know most of the information here, but it does serve as a reference point.
Southerndown is a private members' club affiliated to the Golf Union of Wales which governs amateur golf in Wales. Golf is played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as published and interpreted by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. The handicapping system used is that devised by CONGU - the Council of National Golf Unions.
Most of the information in the members' section is available to all. There are, however, some details that are more sensitive such as financial matters, confidential notices, etc. These can be found in the members' only news section which is password protected. Please contact the office for the password.

How to rake and leave a Bunker after play
Most of our complaints about the bunkers are a result of poor technique rather than poor construction, that said, many golfers are guilty of not leaving the bunker in the condition they found it or better for that matter. My name is John Peters and I'm the Director of Golf here at Southerndown Golf Club. I have put this clip together to help explain the recent change of concept in how we set up our bunkers each day and the best practice required from players when raking the bunker after play.
Unique way to use our course divot bags!
Members will be aware of the divot bags we have on stands at various points on the course. Paul Porter of Southerndown golf club has developed a unique and effective way of using the bags to fill the divots out on the fairways. We would urge members that use trolley’s to adopt this technique to help improve our fairways even further!
Handicap Certificate
If you are joining Southerndown from another club you can bring your handicap certificate with you. Otherwise you need to hand in three cards, signed by your golfing partners, to the Professional who will allocate a handicap to you. This will then be revised – either automatically when you play in qualifying competitions, or by general play revision, if appropriate.
