Junior Open Southerndown Golf Club

Thursday 21st August

 

With a slightly lower turnout of competitors due to GCSE results day. 27 players from clubs around South Wales to compete in our Junior Open and it was quite a successful day for Southerndown Juniors.

 

Winner - Henri Johnson Brynhill 43 points

2nd place - Henry Evans Southerndown 42 points

3rd place - Oz Williams Southerndown 38 Points

Best Gross - Henry Evans Southerndown 77 Gross

 

Well done to Henry from Brynhill, but a special mention for Southerndown's Henry Evans on Runner up in the Stableford and fantastic 77 to win best gross. Also well done to all the other Southerndown and South Wales clubs players who attended and enjoyed.

 

And thanks to the professional team and our Catering team ensuring a successful day!

 

Junior Competitions update

 

There have been two competitions played over the last few weeks and these are the results. 

 

Summer Comp 1 - July 22nd

 

Winner - Tommy Evans 39 points

Runner up - Harry Lewis 38 points

 

Summer Comp 2 - August 6th

 

Winner - Noa Mannion 38 points

Runner up - Conor Nolan 37 points

and

Best Gross - Tommy Evans 76

 

With also some great scores for Tommy Evans with a fantastic gross of 76 and 37 points also, Heath Marshall-Elson also on 37 points, Ted McEvoy on 36oints and George Hobbs on 33 points. All the above will be presented at Junior Presentation night in December as with other competitions. The next competition is on Sunday 17^th August at 2pm.

Winner - William Owen 34 points on countback

Runner up - Matthew Hicks 34 points

Wales Mini Masters 2025

 

Great News on the latest Qualifying events at Llantrisant and Pontyclun Golf Club on Tuesday the 5^th of August and Pennard Golf Club on Monday 11th of August

 

Llantrisant and Pontyclun Golf Club

Boys 9 Hole age 8-9 Year 3 & 4 Winner and Qualifier - Dexter Thomas (42 gross)

and

Girls 9 Hole age 8-9 Year 3 & 4 Winner and Qualifier - Zeinab Safwan (52 Gross)

Pennard Golf Club 

Boys 9 Hole age 8-9 Year 3 & 4 Winner and already Qualified for Final - Dexter Thomas (36 gross)

Boys 7 and under Year 2 and Under Runner up Morgan Whiskerd (43 gross) Qualifies for Final as Winner already Qualified for Final

 

Congratulations to Dexter, Zeinab and Morgan on reaching the Wales Mini Masters Final on home soil in October.

Other news

 

Tommy Evans finished well with a 4^th Place in the Ben Williams Junior Open in Whitchurch with a gross 79 Nett 72. He has also played two matches with Glamorgan County in the last week or so. So well done Tommy, you are continuing to having a great season!

 

Junior Team update

 

Lastly, as mentioned on the Captains News letter, our Junior Team has had a great season. We are on the brink of Qualifying for the Glamorgan County Premier League Division Final. Our last game of the season was at Llanishen with a narrow 2-1 loss but are awaiting results to see if we can Qualify as best Runner up. Fingers crossed and well done to all the boys involved this season with the time, commitment and effort.
