DIVOT BAGS

Please take a divot bag with you today
and play a small part in solving a big problem.

At Southerndown Golf Club we are blessed with fantastic golfing terrain.  However, the fragile nature of the site, especially the front half of the course, means that divot damage can be excessive.  Thin, nutrient-poor soil makes for firm, rolling fairways, but it also dries very quickly leading to replaced divots dying before they get the chance to knit back into the turf.

Divoting is carried out in the spring and mid-summer by the course staff and is successful in repairing divot damage and helps to keep damage to an acceptable level.  During these two divoting sessions we can shift up to three tons a day over a month long period.  The task is very time-consuming and often leads to other areas on the course receiving less attention than normal.

Bags will be placed on the way to the first tee; top-up stations will be located on all par 3Â’s to refill your bag.  At the end of your round please place your empty bag in the bin next to the gates.

1.  Take a bag ( - optional if you are carrying) and hang it from your trolley

2.  Scatter some divot mix over your divots

3.  Replenish your bag at the stations on the par 3Â’s

4.  Return your bag to the bin at the end of your round
