SUPPORT FOR JUNIORS AT SOUTHERNDOWN
Southerndown juniors received a boost recently when the Committee voted to make £1,200 available for junior coaching.
Inspired by the success of Welsh Amateur Champion and Walker Cup player, Llewellyn Matthews, who came up through the ranks at Southerndown, interest among juniors is stronger than ever.
One junior who will be hoping to benefit from this funding with some extra lessons is 15-year-old Sam Forman. Having started last year with a handicap of 28 he shot 86 gross off 24 in a recent White Box Medal to return a winning score of 62. In years to come he may try to emulate his grandfather, David, who has twice ‘shot his age’ – an unrealistic target for Sam at present!
