New local rule ref GPS/ Distance measuring devices

Southerndown will be one on the first clubs in the area to allow the use of GPS or electronic measuring devices for use in competitive and social golf. This is now accepted in the world of golf and will help speed up play, particularly for visitors. I've lost count of the times I've observed people counting out paces to the 150 yard marker and holding up play.
We will be reviewing the impact of this measure through the golfing season.
The specific rule that applies is
14-3.Artificial Devices, Unusual Equipment and Unusual Use of Equipment
For those who are not familiar with the devices, they are basically an electronic yardage book, giving distances to the front, centre and back of the green among other pieces of information
The allowed devices show factual information such as distance, but must not give additional information on things like climactic conditions (wind speed, direction, etc). Two European tour events this year will be played allowing the use of these devices
Please familiarise yourself with the local rule (download below) and on the notice board. Please remember that they are only allowed at a course by local rule- check before using at another course.
We'd be interested in feedback on this decision, and also on any observations from people who've experienced this first hand. Please also remember that use of mobile phones on the course is not allowed- these devices are silent
