Course Improvement Work starts following Course Forum

Andrew and his team are very busy at the moment- taking advantage of the recent good weather by starting the work at the back of the fifth and the fourteenth green. You might remember that these bunkers were very small and unfair. Making the bunkers larger was not an option (without considerable expense) as the bedrock is just below the surface of the old bunkers. 

 

Andrew is planning to introduce marram grass as well as mounding the back of the green. The bunkers have been filled in at the rear of the 5th and are currently marked as GUR. Mounding creation has srtarted on the 14th with hollows created in place of the old bunkers.

 

The greenside bunker on the left side of fifteen has been filled in, and the adjacent bunker is in the process of being enlarged. Gorse clearance has also started- odd clumps on 12 and 15 have been removed.

 

Marram grass is the longer, tougher grass found on some parts of the course- most notably on the back of the fairway bunkers on 8- a photograph of the grass will help you see that the removal of the bunkers will not necessarily make the hole play easier. Marram grass is a difficult plant to establish- please help by keeping off the marked areas whilst construction is taking place.
