The 2024 Duncan Putter enjoyed a mixture of weather conditions for our competitors this weekend, with sunshine, wind, mist and showers all thrown in to challenge the players. Each days play saw par being broken, but there was a total of only six rounds under the par of 70 for the whole event, a testament of the conditions but also the quality of the course at SGC.
Three Welshmen took the top spots with Caolan Burford (Rhuddlan) producing some steady rounds on the final 36 holes for a final four round total of 284 (+4) to win by two clear shots. Tom Savill (Glamorganshire) claimed second place two shots back on 286 (+6) and Sean David in third one shot further back on 287 (+7).
There was plenty of home interest with Owen Greenow, Llew Matthews, Harry Watkins and Jaco Van de Merwe all making the cut. Harry Watkins with the best finish, taking a share of 6th place after shooting 69 (-1) in round 3, but slipped up a little on the back 9 to record a 74(+4) in the final round for a total of 290 (+10).
Big Thank you to the following:

Official Starters
Steve Roberts and Tony Newton for organising the players off the 1st tee and making sure they had all the information for play.
Referees
David Shuttleworth as Chief Referee and his team of referees who looked after the players out on the course and making sure all ran smoothly.
SGC Staff
Andrew Mannion (Course Manager) and his team produced a well conditioned course and a fair challenge for the players. The golf shop team of Simon Askins and Morgan Grace for registering the players, collecting cards and producing the scoreboards for the event. Quentin Jones for looking after the practice range for the players. Sian Feeley and her team behind the Bar and Leanne Gordon and her team in the kitchen, for looking after all the officials, players and visitors to the club over the tournament weekend.
This has been another great Duncan Putter event at Southerndown and one I'm sure one Colonel Tony Duncan would have been proud to see. .
