History made at 2019 Duncan Putter

14 APRIL 2019 20:15

The final day of the 2019 Duncan Putter proved the toughest test of them all. A freshening north-easterly wind and overcast conditions offered no let up for the 43 players that made the 157 cut mark.

Two young Welshmen, Jacob Davies from Rhuddlan and Oliver Brown from The Vale Resort, scored the lowest of round 3 with a 3 over par 73, firing Oliver from 9th position up to 2nd place overall going into the final round. George Bryant from Exeter was playing exceptional golf, and continued to lead after every round -  he went into round 4 with a 2 shot lead.

Thomas Williams from Wrexham carded the lowest score of round 4 with an impressive 71, eventually leading to a top 5 position overall. Both Jacob Davies and Shergo Al Kurdi from Woking posted final rounds of 73, becoming new leaders in the club house on 296 (+16). This left a tense few minutes as George Bryant had a putt from around 8 feet on the last to card 76, and for 295 overall. Unfortunately, this was not to be and history was made with a three way tie at the top.

Congratulations to the 2019 Duncan Putter winner - Shergo Al Kurdi (Woking), George Bryant (Exeter) & Jacob Davies (Rhuddlan).

Southerndown Golf Club would like to thank all the competitors for supporting the event, and also to the members for their continued hard work marshalling and refereeing.
