Duncan Putter Day 2 - the links shows its teeth!

13 APRIL 2019 18:51

Another day of strong north-easterly winds faced the competitors for the second round of the Duncan Putter. The links played fast and bouncy, with the added difficulty of a few tucked away pin positions.

Southerndown and Welsh International Matthew Harris posted the best score of the day, carding an up and down 71 with 5 birdies and 6 bogeys. Equally impressive was Matthew Delaney of Prestbury Golf Club who managed a round of 72, putting him in 2nd position overall heading into Sunday. This is what he had to say about his round.. "hit it alright today, but putted really well especially from around 30 feet and in. Managed to miss the greens in the right spots."

The overnight leader George Bryant, Exeter Golf Club, followed his superb round of 67 yesterday with a solid 75. He sits top of the leaderboard at the half-way stage, with an overall score of 142 (+2), 3 shots clear of Matthew Delaney and Matthew Harris.

The Swedes have made a very stong start to the tournament, with 4 currently placing in the top 10.

Same to be said about the Southerndown members. 7 have safely navigated the 157 (+17) cut mark and move through to play on Sunday; Matthew Harris 145, Kieron Harman 149, Graham McMonagle 155, Owain Taylor 156, Theo Baker Llew Matthews Harry Watkins 157.

Graham McMonagle said afterwards on Twitter, "Toughest i've ever played Southerndown - been a member 22 years." The links certaintly provided a tough test for the players, and with the wind forecast to remain the same for tomorrow, we are in for an exciting final two rounds.
