The Duncan Putter tournament is changing its format to meet the demands of the modern amateur game. Over the past few years the tournament has slipped down in the tournament world rankings (WAGR) due to a decline in the number of world ranked players entering the event. There are many factors involved in this decline such as, the event clashing with other high profile events and the format of 36 holes each day over just two days. The later we believe is a major factor in not attracting some of the Uk's and indeed Europe's best male players.
In recognition of this dilemma the EC, following consultation with the GUW, Players and our Director of Golf, have decided to run next years event over three days instead of two. This would mean 1 round played on the first two days with 36 holes to be played on the final day. This would allow an increase in the entry from 66 to 100 and the pace of the tournament would be less frantic, as currently experienced due to the restricted daylight hours. The GUW are fully in favour of the changes and will be promoting the event all around UK & Europe on their travels.
One of the requests received from the players was for help with accommodation and this is something we would like to put out to our members, to see if they could help. Traditionally the event was by invitation only and members would put up many of the invitees travelling from long distance. It would be great to see the club getting back to this tradition to help make the event climb back up the world ranking list and to further cement the Duncan Putter, as one of the premier tournaments on the amateur schedule.
