Southerndown is the nearest championship links-style course to the Ryder Cup 2010 venue at Celtic Manor – less than an hour's drive away. Situated just outside Bridgend, in the picturesque Vale of Glamorgan, Southerndown enjoys wonderful panoramic views across the Bristol Channel. View location map.

Southerndown has been blessed with the best golfing turf. Free draining soil means the course is rarely if ever closed. We play on grass all year round; temporary greens are an extremely rare occurrence, and your shoes will be generally mud free at the end of the round. We do however have sheep on the course- a natural hazard!

The golf course is wonderful - natural hazards such as wind, gorse, bracken and also sheep confront the golfer. The land has been shaped over thousands of years into the Championship golf course that you see today. The bumps and hollows are natural features - not some artificial construction developed by moving tons of earth. Ball above or below your feet, a downhill, sidehill or uphill lie - all natural, each a different test of your golfing ability.

You can book online, however please remember that Southerndown is a members’ course - some of the time will have been blocked out and so be unavailable.

Southerndown is a traditional golf club. We follow the golfing etiquette guidelines given by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club - golf’s governing body. Details of the required standard of etiquette can be found here
