Adders on the Course
Adders At this time of the year it is not uncommon to see adders on the course. They do not usually attack unless disturbed, so take extra care when looking for your ball in the rough. An adder has recently been seen on the 13th hole, so for H & S reasons can I mention the following: Adder bites can be painful but they are rarely serious. About 7 out of 10 adder bites only result in pain and swelling in the area that has been bitten. Since records began in 1876 there have only been 14 reported deaths as a result of adder bites, with the last death occurring in 1975. You can find out more about adder bites on the internet, e.g. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Bites-snake/Pages/Introduction.aspx If you see an adder please report it to the office so that I can alert other golfers.
