Southerndown Golf Club Local Rules
1. OUT OF BOUNDS (Rule 27-1)
18TH HOLE
a. To the right of the line of white posts marking the shallow trench running from the right hand side of the
18th tee to the Office. The practice area is therefore out of bounds.
b. Beyond the line of the fence in front of the Clubhouse and beyond the white posts extending the line
across the 1st tee.
2. INTEGRAL PARTS OF THE COURSE
a. The ha-ha and stone wall between the 18th green and the Clubhouse
b. All unsurfaced tracks
3. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS (Rule 24-2)
a. All fixed sprinkler heads, irrigation system boxes and150-yard distance markers;
b. All artificially surfaced tracks.
c. All tee information blocks, wooden steps in bunkers and all fixed course furniture
d. The greenkeepers' shed, yard and chippings path alongside the shed.
Relief may be taken as follows: The player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of and
not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief, where the nearest point of relief is not nearer the hole and avoids
interference from the obstruction.
e. In addition, if such an obstruction on or within two club lengths of the putting green of the hole being
played intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, where the ball lies within 2 club
lengths of the intervening obstruction:
Relief Rule 24-2b applies: The ball may be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty within1club length of the nearest
point to where the ball lay which is: (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids such interventions, (c) is not in a hazard nor
on the putting green.
4. MOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS (Rule 24-1)
Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions.
5. GROUND UNDER REPAIR AND ABNORMAL GROUND CONDITIONS (Rule 25)
a. Ground under repair is marked by white lines or bounded by ropes.
b. Seams of Cut Turf: If the ball lies in or touches the seam of a newly turfed area or the seam interferes
with the area of intended swing (but not stance)
Relief without penalty must be taken under Rule 251-b (the same lift/drop as Rule 24-2b explained above)
6. ANIMAL DUNG AND HOOF PRINTS
Animal dung and hoof prints may be treated as GUR. Relief is restricted to lie and area of intended swing. Relief
does not apply to stance.
Relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 251-b.
7. ARTIFICIAL TURF IN BUNKERS
Artificial turf structures in bunkers and bunker surrounds are integral parts of the course. No relief can be
taken for area of intended swing.
8. ARTIFICIAL DEVICES (Rule 14-3)
A player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However, if, during a
stipulated round, a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other
conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of
Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are
actually used.
For Your Information: The 150 & 100 yardage markers are measured to the centre of the green.
